RUSHTON: MALLINSON
ARKADIA (2021)
A collaborative project between Mally Mallinson and Stephanie Rushton, commissioned by Urban Wilderness CIC Stoke for the Wastelands: Public Art Now Festival along with Natalia Kasprzycka, (Alignment), Lola Adodo (Tracoband), Sophia Hatfield (Grit) and Tracey Meek (Reconnect and Grow).
Inspired by dystopian narratives from science and speculative fiction, Arkadia explores Posthuman dialogues, our relationship to the natural world, the environmental impact of mass consumerism and the potential consequences of climate change.
The Golden Fleeced, a golden shopping trolley suspended in a tree, acts as a replacement for shop signage.
Skip of Fools, a skeleton pushes a skip containing the last remnants of earth’s precious plant life up a mound of architectural debris.
The shop windows display edge to edge digital photographic imagery of entangled, withered vegetation.
This project was generously funded by Arts Council England, National Lottery Fund and Canals and River Trust.
